EOIs now open "Essential skills for statistics leadership in consultancy and research" workshop

Expressions of interest are open for this exciting new event; a two-day symposium aiming to build statistical leadership skills among Early and Mid-Career Statisticians across Australia. Statisticians from all sectors, including research organisations, government and industry are encouraged to attend and prospective attendees will be able to apply for travel bursaries to support attendance.
The symposium will provide a space for participants to share their consultancy and research experiences and build confidence in core leadership skills as part of their ongoing professional development.
The symposium will include international keynote speakers, invited and contributed presentations, and group networking activities on:
- Cross-disciplinary communication: building confidence in gaining trust with collaborators, creating a shared language, and managing difficult conversations.
- Building a statistical leadership profile: balancing research consultancy and collaboration with establishing an independent track record.
- From individual contributor to leader: strategies for forming and managing teams in statistical consultancy and research projects.
- Statistical consultancy models in research: what works, what hasn’t, and how models must adapt for long-term sustainability in a changing research landscape.
Other topic suggestions will be considered (please provide below).
Where: Brisbane and Melbourne
The symposium will be a dual-hub in-person event co-hosted by the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation at Queensland University of Technology and the Methods and Implementation Support for Clinical and Health research Hub at the University of Melbourne. Participants will attend in-person from one of the two hubs, with presenters at each hub livestreamed to the other hub.
When: July 9th and 10th 2026
The Symposium will be held immediately prior to International Conference on Teaching Statistics (ICOTS https://icots12.oa-event.com/) in Brisbane (which commences on 11th July for pre-conference workshops).
Further symposium details, including keynote speakers and registration will be released soon. Abstract submissions will open on 16th March.
