Celebrating Excellence: A/Prof Karen Lamb named Finalist for Eureka Prize

We are thrilled to announce that Associate Professor Karen Lamb has been named a finalist for the prestigious Eureka Prize for Outstanding Mentor of Researchers. This recognition celebrates her exceptional contributions to the professional development of statisticians across Australia and beyond.
Recognising a need to build better connections between early-career and more established statisticians in Australia, Karen single-handedly launched a pilot mentoring program for statisticians through the Statistical Society of Australia in 2020. The sucess of this pilot led to expanding the mentoring program nationally, and has now supported over 200 statisticians in their professional development.
Karen's visionary leadership and dedication have not only strengthened the statistical community in Australia but have also had international impact, with Karen advising mentoring initiatives in Canada, the UK, and New Zealand. Her advocacy for diversity in statistical publications and academic promotions further highlights her commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive research environment.
We are incredibly proud of Karen’s achievements and the recognition she has received. Her work exemplifies the values of ViCBiostat and continues to inspire researchers at all career stages.
