Causal inference in health data science: advancing understanding and methods

Dr Margarita Moreno-Betancur

The ultimate goal of medical and health research is to improve patient outcomes and population health. As a result, the overwhelming majority of clinical and public health research studies ask “causal” questions, concerning the effect of treatments, policies, behaviours and other exposures on health outcomes. In many cases, especially in the current era of data deluge, these studies rely on observational (non-randomised) data to address causal questions.

Enhancing aspects of time-to-event analysis methodology in randomised trials

Prof. Rory Wolfe
In time-to-event ("survival") analysis the direct modelling of the time until an event occurs, through accelerated failure time models, is an important and underutilised approach.

Current ViCBiostat post doc and student research

In April 2018, the ViCBiostat team met for a brief review of recent research and work in progress. The presentations from students and post docs, available here, provide an overview of a range of our current research.
