Dr Melanie Bahlo

Melanie Bahlo is a laboratory head in the Bioinformatics Division at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, Melbourne. She graduated in 1998 with a PhD in population genetics from Monash University. She currently holds an Australian ARC Future Fellowship and an honorary NHMRC Senior Research Fellowship. In 2009 she was awarded the Moran medal by the Australian Academy of Science. Her research areas are statistical genetics, bioinformatics and population genetics. Her statistical analyses have led to the discovery of new genes involved in genetic diseases such as deafness and epilepsy. She has also developed new methods and software for the analysis of genetic data.
